Celso's Profile
My Personal StoryMy name is Celso H. L. Silva-Junior; I was born in the ghetto of São Luís, the capital of the Maranhão state, Brazilian Eastern Amazon. My interest in science started in high school, during biology, chemistry, and physics classes. After that, I did a professional course in the environment, then a degree in environmental engineering, and finally, a master's and a Ph.D. in remote sensing, where I focused on studying tropical forests.
I am a remote sensing scientist with an interdisciplinary background in environmental sciences, tropical ecology, and carbon dynamics. I have strong analytical skills in large geospatial datasets. My main interests and experience are in investigating forest dynamics with remote sensing to solve issues related to the carbon cycle and environmental and climate change. I am currently working as a Postdoc Researcher at the University of California Los Angeles - UCLA (USA), where I research the use of remote sensing to map and quantify the carbon sequestration by tropical secondary-growth forests using remote sensing datasets. I also help my colleagues and collaborate on other interesting remote sensing research. I am permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Biodiversity and Conservation at the Universidade Federal do Maranhão - UFMA (Brazil) and collaborator professor in the Graduate Program in Environment at the Universidade CEUMA - UniCEUMA (Brazil). If you have collaboration ideas, please get in touch with me. |
